Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and Kioo Education. We have tried to write them in ordinary English. Where a section really matters — money, the AI Tutor's limits, and liability — we have said so plainly rather than burying it.
In one paragraph
Use Kioo to learn. Keep your account details to yourself. Everything in the lesson library is free; Kioo Pro costs UGX 15,000 a month and unlocks the AI Tutor. The AI can be wrong, so treat it as a study aid, not an authority. Don't abuse the service, and we won't shut you out of it. Either side can end this at any time.
1. This agreement
By downloading, opening, or using the Kioo app or the kioo.site website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Kioo.
"Kioo", "we" and "us" mean Kioo Education of Kampala, Uganda. "You" means the person using the service. "The service" means the Kioo app, the website, and everything in them.
These terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, Responsible AI policy, Billing terms and Child Safety Standards. Where the Billing terms say something more specific about payments, the Billing terms win.
2. Who may use Kioo
Kioo is designed for primary-school pupils, most of whom are under 18. That is intentional — but it means a grown-up has to be involved.
- If you are under 18, you may use Kioo only with the knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian.
- A parent or guardian who allows a child to use Kioo accepts these terms on that child's behalf and is responsible for the child's use of the service.
- Only a person aged 18 or over may buy a subscription or credits.
- You must give accurate information when you register.
3. Your account
- One account per person. Do not share an account with other pupils.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us at support@kioo.site if you think someone else has got into your account.
- We may suspend an account that appears to be shared, automated, or used to abuse the service.
- A parent may link their account to a child's through the Parent Portal. Linking gives the parent visibility of the child's learning activity and the ability to pay and to request deletion. Both sides can unlink.
4. What is free, and what is paid
Free, with no time limit and no card required: all 3,151 lessons, all 9,451 quiz questions, the Lottie animations, read-aloud, full-catalogue search, bookmarks, history, progress tracking and streaks.
Kioo Pro — UGX 15,000 per month: unlocks the AI Homework Tutor, with roughly 30 photo questions each month and free follow-up chat within a session. Additional photo-question credits can be bought as top-ups from UGX 3,000 to UGX 20,000; purchased credits do not expire.
Because of Google Play's rules for digital subscriptions, payment happens on the web at kioo.site/pro, not inside the app. Full detail — renewals, cancellation, refunds — is on the billing page, which forms part of these terms.
We may change what is included in the free and paid tiers. If a change removes something you are paying for, we will tell you before it takes effect and you may cancel.
5. The AI Tutor — what you're agreeing to
This is the most important section to actually read.
- The AI Tutor is an educational aid. It explains how to approach a question. It is not a teacher, an examiner, or a source of truth.
- It can be wrong. AI systems make mistakes, including confident ones — misreading handwriting, dropping a minus sign, or explaining a method that does not match how your school teaches it. Always check important work with your teacher.
- We give no guarantee that an answer is correct, complete, curriculum-aligned, or suitable for your exam board.
- Answers are generated by third-party AI models operated by Google and Anthropic. Their availability is not entirely in our control.
- Do not use the AI Tutor to cheat in an examination or to break your school's rules on assessed work. That is between you and your school, but we do not support it, and our prompts push the AI towards explaining rather than simply supplying answers.
- Do not photograph anything other than schoolwork. See the privacy policy.
- Every answer carries a report control. If the AI produces something unhelpful, wrong or inappropriate, please flag it.
6. Acceptable use
Don't:
- Copy, scrape, bulk-download, republish or resell Kioo's lessons, quizzes, illustrations or animations.
- Reverse-engineer the app or our APIs, or access them by anything other than the official app and site.
- Attempt to break, overload, probe or circumvent our security, rate limits, or credit system.
- Use automated tools to create accounts or generate AI Tutor requests.
- Upload anything unlawful, or anything that infringes someone else's rights.
- Attempt to steer the AI Tutor towards content that is not schoolwork — in particular anything sexual, violent, hateful, or that endangers a child.
- Impersonate anyone, or use Kioo to harass or endanger another person.
If you find a security flaw, please report it responsibly rather than exploiting it — see the security page. Good-faith research reported that way will not be treated as a breach of these terms.
7. Who owns what
Our content
The lessons, quiz questions, illustrations, animations, the Kioo name, the mascot and the app itself belong to Kioo Education or our licensors, and are protected by copyright and trade-mark law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use them for your own study — or, for a parent, to support your own child's study. Nothing more is granted.
Curriculum topics and syllabus structures themselves are not owned by us; our expression of them is.
Your content
The homework photos and questions you send stay yours. You grant us only the narrow licence we need to run the feature: to transmit the image to our AI providers, generate an answer, store that answer in your history, and show it back to you. We do not use your content to train AI models, we do not publish it, and we do not sell it.
Feedback
If you send us a suggestion, we may act on it without owing you anything for it. We appreciate the suggestions all the same.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep Kioo running, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may take the service down for maintenance, change features, or retire parts of it. Where a change is significant and negative for paying users, we will give notice.
Kioo needs an internet connection for most things. Data charges from your mobile network are yours to pay.
The app includes a forced-update mechanism. If a release is critical for security or correctness, older versions may stop working until you update.
9. Ending this agreement
You can stop at any time: delete the app, or delete your account entirely through Profile → Delete Account or the web form. If you have paid for a period, cancelling stops the next renewal — see refunds.
We may suspend or close an account if you materially breach these terms, particularly the acceptable-use or child-safety rules, or if we are legally required to. Except where the breach is serious or unlawful, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we close a paid account for something that was not your fault, we will refund the unused part of your current period.
10. Disclaimers
Kioo is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all implied warranties — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
In particular, we do not warrant that: the service will be uninterrupted or error-free; that lesson content or AI answers are free of mistakes; that using Kioo will produce any particular examination result; or that Kioo content matches every school's or examination board's requirements. Kioo is a revision aid. It does not replace school, teachers, or a syllabus.
11. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or examination outcomes.
- Our total liability to you for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period or UGX 50,000.
If you use Kioo for free, that limit will usually mean UGX 50,000. We think that is fair for a free service; if you do not, please do not use it.
12. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used Kioo in breach of these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and legal costs arising from it. This does not apply where the claim is caused by our own breach or negligence.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Uganda, and the courts of Uganda have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of any mandatory protection under the law of your own country.
Before going to court, please email support@kioo.site. Most things are a misunderstanding that a reply can fix, and we would rather fix it.
14. General
- Whole agreement. These terms, plus the policies they reference, are the entire agreement between us about Kioo.
- Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours if the business is sold, on the same terms.
- Changes. We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
- App stores. Google and Apple are not parties to this agreement and have no obligation to support Kioo.
